I noticed my name in the paper this morning.

I'm one of the creative writing faculty giving a reading on April 5. I knew that but long ago forgot about it. It's an annual event. When I mentioned this to Mom, who was sitting across the table as I read the paper, she suggested that this time I read from my blog, as that has been a new creative effort this year.

I'm borrowing an idea from Loralee Choate here: you half dozen people who read the CrustyProfessor, which piece would you choose for me to present as an oral reading?

Only ONE?!
My suggestions would be:
=The one about Shawn. It was so moving.
=The one posted February 22, 2006
"Late this afternoon I will perform an aria in the role of Zorastro"
=The one posted February 03, 2006
"An exposition of writing teacher knowledge:"
There are several others ... how will you choose??
Does that mean you are a celebrity now and we must call you "Sir Peabody"?

I liked the story about the neighbor you didn't know you had behind your house. Shawn, I think was his name. Great story! Stuck with me, always will. I read that post and decided to make your blog one of the few blogs I'd read again.

Without looking to refresh my memory--I immediately thought of the post about the little boy who moved away. It's a strong piece...but then again, you have lots of them. What about reading more than one?

Thanks for the responses. I should have reported that I have eight minutes for my portion of the reading.

Natasjia, your first link didn't work, so I don't know what that choice was.

Renee, I don't know where the reading will be yet. I do know it is at three o'clock. Last year it was in HS 103.

At least four people selected the Shawn piece, so I'm sure I'll include that. I'll practice reading it aloud to see how long it takes and make any other choices based on that.

Thanks all, including "Anonymous." I appreciate the response.

Oh, and the reading (according to the press release that Al Nohner sent out) is being held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, in HS 102.

But that might be wrong.

Only eight minutes. With your powerful, captivating voice and your inspirational words, how will eight minutes suffice? Only eight minutes will definitely leave the audience wanting more - just like your students always want more. Whatever you choose, there is no doubt in my mind that it will be nothing less than amazing.

Thank you for the honor!

Sorry I am late in responding, but I sifted through to make sure I was giving a good opinion.

My pick (As I thought originally)would also be the Shawn piece. It really sticks out as the clear winner.

Let us all know how it goes!

Loralee
